5 Common Mistakes Made When
Buying Health Insurance
1. Not Being Prepared:
Health insurance, or any Insurance for that matter is for when
the unexpected happens. With health insurance it could be used for
anything from a chronic sinus infection to a major illness
to an accident or injury. It is always preferable to be
prepared for all of these situations.
Obviously we all need the best coverage for
our money. By not being prepared, you have no way of preventing
a catastrophic loss to you and your family. Even after they
fully recover…what would all of those medical expenses do to
you and your family’s lifestyle? It’s enough to have a health
crisis come up, what would happen if you had that same
situation without a comprehensive health plan in place? It
would be like driving around with no car insurance. Unless you
are wealthy, most of us can not afford to fix or buy a new car
because someone drove into our car and totaled it. The same
goes for your health and well-being. Have you implemented a
plan that gives you the optimum care when you need it most?
2. Not Shopping:
Shopping for health insurance can be a really boring, tedious
and daunting task. It really requires some sound advice and
guidance from someone who has had experience in what is
available and what you can afford for your money. Here at FHIA
we want to make sure that when we shop with and for you and
your family, you get the most protection for what you can
afford. Not everyone can afford every bell and whistle but we
know how to pick the plans that cover the most for your hard
earned money.
3. Not Knowing Carrier
Rates:
When you're shopping for health insurance it’s best to not
focus only on price. There is a huge variation with price
versus coverage. It isn’t necessarily the most expensive plans
that have the best coverage. If your agent is able to shop and
compare you will find there are many options available. At
Florida Health Insurance Advisors we have access to so many
plans that you would not be able to understand on your own. We
know how to navigate through all of the product options and
weigh the cost vs.. the protection. We know the companies
reputations, their strengths and weaknesses, how well they pay
your claims, your coverage and total risk involved.
Don’t do this on your own. Why would you
when you pay not a penny more to have your own reliable health
insurance agent on your side to guide and support you in your
decision?
4. Not having an advocate:
Again, why go it alone and have no personal service, no
advocate, no one person with knowledge and experience in
handling your health insurance? Especially when you realize
this is without any cost to you. No risk, no problem. Better
insurance! Unless, maybe you would prefer using a call center
and getting that random person who has no idea who you are, who
your family is and will hang up and move on to the next call.
I’m sure you would prefer personalized service with an agent
who welcomes that business relationship with you.
5. Not Understanding Your Policy:
Not understanding what deductible and co insurance means is
quite normal. We at FHIA try to make sure you understand what
your total risk is.
People aren’t always aware of their
benefits, limits, exclusions and other options in their plans.
We will be there to clear up anything for you that you don’t
understand.
What happens to your plan if you suddenly
have a job opportunity in another state? Is it transferable? If
someone has had a major illness or accident and had ongoing
health needs this could be a devastating issue. Many plans are
not transferable so what you were being treated for could be
excluded if you move to a state where your carrier doesn’t
issue health insurance. Some plans follow you wherever you move
in the US. We know the answers.
Do you know what happens if you get hurt at
work with the plan you have or are looking at?
Do you know if your plan is fully
comprehensive or a discount plan? A discount or indemnity plan
can be just as expensive and sometimes more expensive as a
comprehensive plan. How will you know if you shop on your
own?
* Don’t skimp on your health insurance, no
matter how great you feel now. Get as much protection and limit
your liability and risk as much as you can. An accident or
illness is no more planned then a car crash and we all have car
insurance. Take all of the possibilities into account BEFORE
you need it.
